The photo exhibit Faith, Loss, Renewal: The Russlaender Mennonites is on display at Gallery in the Park in Altona, Manitoba, from June 7 to July 31.

Created by Aileen Friesen with designer Anikó Szabó, the exhibit depicts the physical and emotional journey of 21,000 Mennonites from the Soviet Union to Canada during the 1920s. Using historical photographs and texts from those who decided to leave, it follows their experiences of revolution, civil war, and immigration, and explores the struggles of faith during these periods of violence and uncertainty.
Also on display are prints from Miriam Rudolph’s artist books Layered Histories: Perspectives on Colonization from the Chaco and Storied Land: (Re)Mapping Winnipeg. More information about these can be found on the Gallery in the Park website.
Gallery in the Park is open Tuesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and until 8 p.m. on Thursdays. Admission is free.
