In 2025, the Centre for Transnational Mennonite Studies began the Children of Russlaender Mennonites (CRM) oral history project. This national project explores the adolescent and young adult experiences of people born to Mennonites who immigrated to Canada from the Soviet Union between 1923 and 1930. It analyzes how the legacies of war, revolution, and immigration manifested in the next generation of Canadians.
CRM is on track to be one of the largest Mennonite oral history projects in Canada. Interviews last between one and two hours. The interviews cover themes such as church life, grade school, identity, interactions with non-Mennonites, relationships, home life, and familial values.
This project is graciously funded by the Schroeder Foundation.
