May 05 7:00PM

Plan to join us on May 5 at 7:00 p.m. for the launch of the Centre for Transnational Mennonite Studies (CTMS) and its inaugural lecture by Dr. Aileen Friesen, the Plett Foundation’s 2016 Postdoctoral Fellow, “Indigenous-Mennonite Relations in the Russian Empire: A History of Conflict and Accommodation.” The event will be held in Room 2M70, 2nd Floor Manitoba Hall, University of Winnipeg (515 Portage Avenue).

CTMS will officially be launched by Dr. Neil Besner, Provost and Vice-President, Academic, University of Winnipeg, with brief reflections by Dr. Royden Loewen, Chair in Mennonite Studies, and Dr. Hans Werner, Executive Director, D. F. Plett Historical Research Foundation. A reception will follow Dr. Friesen’s address.

The CTMS is a new initiative in Mennonites Studies at The University of Winnipeg, a new research and educational initiative that brings a global focus to the University’s long-standing program in Mennonite Studies. CTMS facilitates the study of transnational relations among Mennonites who today are spread around the world. It introduces new Mennonite Studies courses, new research initiatives, new lecture series and new scholarly exchanges.

Admission is free. Everyone welcome!
